New Suez Canal: 13.6 Million Cubic Meters of Material Removed
Military Spokesman Brigadier Mohamed Samir yesterday said that 13.6 million cubic meters of material was excavated from the newly-launched Suez Canal project.
In its statement, Samir noted that some 43 companies are now working at the project site and 5 companies are waiting to start work until necessary equipment arrives.
He also said that the companies have started working on a new $4 billion project to expand the Suez Canal by adding a second channel.
The project, announced earlier in August, aims to create new 72 kilometer-long waterway alongside the Suez Canal.
