An integrated approach to managing coastal erosion will be developed by New Plymouth District Council.

At tonight’s Monitoring Committee meeting, Councillors will be advised about the commencement of a District-Wide Coastal Erosion Project that will help sharpen all of the Council’s plan’s and policies related to erosion along the length of the district’s coastline.

Manager Corporate Strategy and Policy Lucy Graydon said: “The Council has completed some substantial planning work in and around our coastal communities. In light of the District Plan review that is now underway, we intend to bring all of the work together as part of an integrated approach to coastal erosion management.”

“The community boards will be key stakeholders in assisting us with this work, and the outcomes of the project will help guide future Council planning and decision-making on coastal erosion issues.”
