Gov. Steve Beshear was in Brandenburg yesterday to break ground on a project with the Meade County Riverport Authority for the construction of a regional port facility for area producers to market their grain, including specialty grain crops.

Gov. Beshear also announced that the project had received $2 million from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, which the Governor chairs.

This facility will be designed so that future upgrades and expansion will be economical.

“ We appreciate the continued support of Gov. Beshear and the KADB throughout the development of this project, ” said Joe Wright, chairman of the Meade County Riverport Authority . “ This riverport facility will create a new market for farm products in our region .”

The Consolidated Grain and Barge Co. will be the stevedore for the port and estimates that initially five to six million bushels of grain will be hauled and shipped from the facility.
