Dutch Businesses in Kenya on Trade Mission

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen and a delegation of 25 Dutch businesses were on an official visit to Kenya, from 28 to 31 October.

The aim of the trip was to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between the Netherlands and Kenya. The main themes of the trade mission were agriculture and infrastructure, particularly maritime infrastructure.

Kenya is a developing country with an active economy that offers many opportunities for the Dutch business community.

Maritime infrastructure is a promising new sector for closer bilateral cooperation. With the transformation of the Netherlands’ role from donor to investor, Kenya is also an example of Ms Ploumen’s aid and trade agenda in action.

Although development cooperation is now being phased out, it will serve as a basis for future trade relations.
