Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013 (WRRDA):

“ Louisiana’s waterways and ports support over 280,000 local jobs while contributing almost $48 billion to our state’s economy annually. With 38 ports throughout Louisiana, it is imperative our nation’s water transportation networks promote American competitiveness and encourage economic growth. The WRRDA legislation achieves this goal.

“One of my main concerns remains the enforcement of measures included in the WRRDA language to allow for funding for the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund.

“This legislation continues to address the blatant misuse of taxpayer funds. I’d like to commend House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster for the remarkable commitment he’s made to our nation’s transportation infrastructure.”
