The Central Dredging Association – CEDA is ringing the changes at Europort 2013 with a new initiative called the CEDA Forum. This stimulating and informative event will replace the usual Dredging Days this year.
Taking as its theme ‘Dredging in a Changing World’, CEDA Forum’s centrepiece will be two interactive workshops taking place on Thursday 7 November 2013 at Ahoy Rotterdam, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The morning workshop is entitled ‘ Working under exotic circumstances’ . Dredging is a truly global industry and has to adapt to widely differing conditions around the world. Working in ‘exotic’ locations can involve considerable challenges, from hazardous natural environments, extremes of climate and the risk of disease to unsafe travel conditions and remoteness from sources of spare parts, which can lead to maintenance problems. The speakers in this workshop will be service-providers who have direct experience of the dangers and the ways in which they can be overcome.
The afternoon session looks at ‘ Large marine infrastructure projects and the EU Habitats Directive: lessons learned ’. The industry is already well aware of its environmental responsibilities, but complying with European legislation can be challenging. This workshop will draw on real-life examples to arrive at pragmatic solutions that will benefit future projects. It’s sure to be an essential session for anyone working on major projects in EU waters.
Both workshops will include plenty of time for open discussion and exchange of views after the main presentations. The panellists will be drawn from industry, government, NGOs and academia.
