Young Authors Award

One of the highlights of WODCON XX, held in Brussels, was the presentation of the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) Award for Best Paper written by a Young Author.

The award was given to Max Radermaclier for his paper, “The Art of Screening, Effectiveness of Silt Screens”. Mr Radermaclier is a PhD candidate at Delft University of Technology, Delft, the Netherlands.

With some 400 delegates in attendance and 3 days of technical paper presentations in concurrent sessions, the competition for the Young Authors Award was intense. The winner was chosen with the assistance of the WODCON Paper Selection Committee chaired by Cees van Rliee, Professor of Dredging Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Marine Technology & Materials Science, Delft University of Technology.

As IADC Secretary General Kohnan expressed in his remarks, Mr Radermaclier’s paper was selected based on his outstanding research but enhanced by “his enthusiastic presentation”.

IADC

WODCON is a triennial event of the WODA, the World Dredging Association which comprises three separate, autonomous sister dredging associations, with separate corporate structures: WEDA – Western Dredging Association serving the Americas, CEDA – Central Dredging Association serving Europe, Africa and the Middle-East and EADA – Eastern Dredging Association serving the Asian and Pacific region.

THE AWARD

Each year at selected conferences, the International Association of Dredging Companies grants awards for the best papers written by authors younger than 35 years of age. In each case the Conference Paper Committee is asked to recommend a prize-winner whose paper makes a significant contribution to the literature on dredging and related fields.

The purpose of the IADC Young Author Award is “to stimulate the promotion of new ideas and encourage younger men and women in the dredging industry”. The winner of an IADC Award receives €1,000 and a certificate of recognition. The paper may then be published in Terra et Aqua Journal.
