Reef Subsea Completes Seabed Excavation Contract for Centrica Energy

Reef Subsea today announced that its subsidiary company, Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical Ltd., with offices in Stockton-on-Tees and Aberdeen, has successfully completed a contract with UK energy company Centrica Energy.

The contract saw Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical assist with seabed excavation services at the Chiswick platform on the Kew field development.

Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical excavated the seabed at a depth of 40m near the Chiswick platform to allow the accommodation platform, Seafox 7, to be able to place the spud cans safely on the seabed. The company managed all onshore and offshore engineering, project management and survey services. Reef Subsea Dredging and Excavation (RSD&E), a Reef Subsea company, also provided dredging services throughout the project.

For this project, Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical utilised its extensive expertise to provide a detailed survey using the latest data processing technologies prior to excavation work commencing. The ROV Survey system and RSD&E high power T8000 excavation tool provided a single source solution to Centrica Energy, operated from Reef Subsea’s CSV Polar Prince.

The project was executed within the seven-day timescale in accordance with the client’s requirements prior the arrival of the Seafox 7 accommodation platform.

The Kew Field Development is a gas field located in the southern North Sea, which is estimated to start production in 2013. Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical also recently worked with Centrica for the installation and burial of cables for the Lines wind farm, which is off the Lincolnshire coast.

Tim Sheehan, Chief Operating Officer of Reef Subsea, said: “This contract allowed us to showcase our single solution capabilities from the Polar Prince using the expertise of both Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical and Reef Subsea Dredging & Excavation, as well as our T8000 excavation tool. Reef Subsea Dredging and Excavation, which results from the merger of Scanmudring and Rotech Subsea combined two leading companies with unique technical capabilities which offers our clients superb expertise.”

Daryl Lynch, Managing Director of Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical, said: “We are honoured to get repeated work from Centrica, and on this prominent project we have succeeded in reacting very quickly to adapt to the tight time schedule. This was a great opportunity for the company following on from the success of the installation and burial of power cables for Centrica as part of the Lines Offshore Wind Farm.’
