The Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) has almost a century’s worth of experience managing Gladstone Harbour and is committed to protecting one of Gladstone’s number one asset long into the future, CEO Leo Zussino said today.
“GPC is the custodian of Gladstone Harbour and it is a responsibility we take very seriously, ” Mr Zussino said.
“ We have almost 100 years of history operating in Gladstone and protecting the harbour is one way we can ensure we will be here for 100 years more.
“Part of our custodianship of the harbour is our commitment to ensuring the health of all of the industries using the harbour.
“GPC wants to ensure commercial fishing continues to be a profitable industry for our children and their children after them.
“Long after the lawyers have moved on, we will still be here partnering with all the industries driving Gladstone to ensure the long-term health of the harbour.
“We are part of Gladstone and we are in it for the long haul.”
GPC is a Government-owned Corporation responsible for managing Gladstone harbour, including the Port, the Gladstone Marina and the surrounding recreational areas.
GPC acknowledges the dredging element of the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project has limited impacts on commercial fishing operators who previously accessed the Western Basin.
In line with the Coordinator General’s recommendation, GPC is committed to providing fair and reasonable compensation for the loss of access to part of the Western Basin.
GPC will now move quickly to implement appropriate compensation for eligible commercial fishers.
