Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has met with Myanmar President Thien Sein, and announced that the two countries have agreed to expand cooperation in various areas.

The Thai Prime Minister and Myanmar President yesterday held a joint press conference, announcing that Thailand will participate in the next joint committee meeting, to which Myanmar will play host. The meeting is expected to take place in August to resolve pending issues and develop guidelines for economic expansion.

According to the Premier,Thailand has proposed 4 joint development projects to Myanmar, including increasing Burmese workers’ potentials, preparing Myanmar for ASEAN Chair in 2014, economic reform and alternative development, and infrastructure development.

In addition, both nations have agreed to push for the project to connect the Dawei Deep-Sea Port with Thailand’s Laem Chabang Port. Under the plan, Myanmar will reap benefits from the Dawei Industrial Estate development, while Thailand will benefit from the development of the Thai Eastern Seaboard.
