Environmental Services Director Susan Goebel-Canning announced that the Florida Department of Transportation has released the $6 million for the Hernando Beach Channel Dredge Project.

In a letter sent to Ms. Goebel-Canning, the FDOT acknowledged that the project had been completed in accordance with the Joint Participation Agreement with Hernando County.

“ I am very pleased with the completion of the project before the FDOT deadline. This was grant money that the County could not afford to lose, ” said Goebel-Canning. “ However, with due diligence, we have ensured that this cost will not be borne by the citizens of Hernando County. The project has greatly improved the safety of the channel and has enhanced recreation and business navigation.”

An official ribbon-cutting event was held to celebrate the project’s completion last month.
