Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Company LLC (Cashman), a leading national provider of environmental dredging, capital improvement, and maintenance dredging services, announced yesterday the award of a contract to provide dredging, transportation, backfilling, and capping services on the 2012 Upper Hudson River Dredging Project. Mobilization efforts have already begun and dredging is expected to begin in May.
Cashman is contracted to continue environmental dredging, backfill, and capping efforts in the Upper Hudson River which began during the 2009 dredging season. When the project resumes in May, dredging will take place 24 hours a day, six days a week, with multiple dredging and material placement platforms. More than 350,000 cubic yards of sediment is targeted for removal in 2012. The sediment will be dewatered at the processing, transportation and treatment facility that GE built for the project in Fort Edward. The dewatered sediment will ultimately be shipped by rail to federally permitted waste disposal facilities.
Cashman will be continuing the work it performed for GE during the 2009 and 2011 dredging seasons during which a total of more than 600,000 cubic yards of PCB impacted sediment was dredged from the Hudson River and more than 500,000 tons of backfill and capping material was installed.
