Bad weather has stalled dredging at the Mooloolah River mouth, according to sunshinecoastdaily.com.

The arrival of a dredge more capable of working during rough conditions than the one that had been operating at Mooloolaba was delayed.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said she understood that the dredge could be finished within a fortnight.

Ms Simpson said it was estimated that the work would cost $400,000.

“ Nature hasn’t stopped it (the sand build-up) and maybe now man has to go in and give it a good blast ,” she said.

Ms Simpson cautioned that the removal of the sand build-up still depended on the weather, even with the more robust dredge.

“ Even with the more robust dredge that will be able to cope with rough conditions, they’re still influenced by the weather ,” she said.
