Daily Pilot reports that the dredging contract for the Newport Harbor was awarded to R.E. Staite Engineering. The contractor will commence dredging in late April, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Greg Fuderer, spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles Division said on Friday that R.E. Staite Engineering was awarded $6.3-million worth contract for dredging of the harbor.

Chris Miller , Harbor Resources Manager, said: “ The city is excited to start this dredging project after nearly 10 years of planning. Our new goal to dispose the sediment at the [Port of Long Beach] is June 30, and so far, it looks like we’ll be able to meet that deadline, but the schedule will still be tight. ”

The exact start date of the project has not been determined, although it is considered that the dredging works will most likely continue into the summer.
