USA: Portland Harbor Dredging Plan Moves Forward

The Portland Harbor is set up for cleaning, reports OPB News. The city’s officials have stated on Wednesday that they have concluded a clean-up plan which will be submitted to the federal government.

Dean Marriott , City Environmental Services’ director, said that a “draft feasibility study” will be handed to the government on Friday and that the plan comprises of several clean-up approaches.

“ Including dredging, also capping in place to protect from any migration or exposure, as well as monitored natural recovery, and the possibility of hybrid recommendations, based on those ,” Marriott explained.

In 2000, the Environmental Protection Agency designated the Portland Harbor as a Superfund site and since than the city has talked about making some changes to the site.

It is expected that a few months from now the EPA will hold a public meeting where they will share their own proposal.
