The Jakarta public works agency has prepared Rp 1 billion (US$110,000) to overcome problems related to floods in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta.
The agency will use the funds to widen and dredge the Krukut river, to build a 9,000 square meter dam and to make a 300-meter-long dike.
The agency’s deputy head Novizal convinced residents on Monday that they should not worry about the program’s implementation. “ We have emergency funds for this situation, ” he said.
He said that the agency had borrowed three river dredging appliances belonging to the Ciliwung and Cisadane Rivers Control Office. “ We plan to widen the river from four meters to six meters, ” he said.
For long term flood-mitigation, Novizal said that his agency would build an 11 hectare dam in Cipedak subdistrict which is located near the flood-vulnerable location of Kampung Pulo.
