USA: Mantiwoc Runs Aground in Saint Joseph

Vessels

The Mantiwoc, a ship carrying limestone, ran aground in Saint Joseph this week.

Being unable to get into the harbor, the ship had no other choice but to go back 300 to 500 feet off from Dock 63.

This happened at the same time as the State Senate was considering a resolution cosponsored by John Proos to request from the federal government to provide money needed for harbor dredging.

Pete Berghoff, President of the dock company, believes that Congressman Fred Upton can help in providing dredging funds.

He also added that the dock has already covered some works and that ports pay a harbor maintenance tax.
