Prolec Gains European Approval for Liftwatch 5 (UK)

Business & Finance

Prolec Ltd, the Poole UK based manufacturer of electronic safety and productivity monitoring equipment for construction plant, has gained European type approval under the machinery directive for their Liftwatch 5 Rated Capacity Indicator (RCI).

Liftwatch 5 has been the industry’s benchmark RCI since its inception” says Gary Tuffy, Prolec’s Sales and Marketing Director. “We’ve always looked to ensure this product meets relevant legislation and to ensure our customers are able to rely on Prolec’s active adherence to the code so they can lift safely, efficiently and within the law. Having recently gained type approval for our Liftwatch Rail product, this continues our drive to fully certify our safety product line to ensure they meet necessary legislative requirements.”

In the latest edition of the Machinery Directive 42/EC/2006 it states that all RCI manufacturers must meet stringent standards of design, functionality and reliability and, importantly must be shown to meet these standards through independent assessment. Prolec’s Engineering Director, Tony Adams, explained that the Liftwatch 5 was put through a rigorous process of testing and approval that resulted in certification for the product as of March 2011.

For Prolec and our customers this is a real bonus, as we can be confident that the use of this product will fulfil relevant legislation and will meet all the requirements for controlling an excavator while lifting. Other systems will provide similar functionality but, at present, are not type approved, so in the event of an accident there is a potential risk of negligence proceedings against the operator for using non type approved equipment. Using a Prolec Liftwatch 5 system completely eliminates this risk, providing complete peace of mind.”
