USA: Officials Extend Cherry Point Terminal Bid Deadline

Environmental consultants have an additional week to submit bids to support Whatcom County, the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) in preparing the agencies’ Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate a proposed bulk cargo marine terminal at Cherry Point in north Puget Sound.

Bid proposals are due by 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2012 at the Whatcom County Courthouse. The county’s public competitive bidding process is being used to select a contractor to prepare the environmental analysis for the three public agencies.

Pacific International Terminals, a subsidiary of SSA Marine Inc. (SSA), proposes to build and operate the Gateway Pacific Terminal between Ferndale and Blaine. The terminal would provide storage and handling of exported and imported dry bulk commodities, including coal, grain, iron ore, salts and alumina. BNSF Railway Inc. proposes to add rail facilities and install a second track along the six-mile Custer Spur.
